Hey! Week 58

Hello everyone

So, this week I am emailing on Wednesday because on Monday we had some training. The MTC has expanded and they will have an open house that starts this Friday and goes throughout next week. As missionaries, they have asked us to be the hosts and to do tours through the new part of the MTC. So, on Monday morning we had training so that we knew what we had to do. Then yesterday we had zone conference so that's why today is our P-Day.

So, last week I got sick for 3 days. It was so hard. BUT I am okay now so there is no need to worry. It is hard when you can't work. You feel like you are a burden to the work. But that's over so I don't want to dwell on it haha. But I was able to receive a blessing from my District Leader and Zone leader (they were on exchanges). My zone leader said something in the blessing that comforted me as I was sick. He talked about how the Saviour understands exactly how I feel and He will help me. That really helped me when I was feeling really bad. I am so grateful for the Saviour who has been my constant companion while I have been on my mission. He has helped me when no one else could.

So, I was sick from Wednesday to Friday. On Saturday, we went out to work. Then on Sunday we had church. We have this one investigator that has come to church 3 weeks in a row now. His name is Brother Max. He is 69 years old and he is so kind! Every week he waits for us outside the gate. He is so shy! Anyway, on Sunday we got there before him and as he came around the corner he looked through the gate and he saw us. Then his eyes went wide, he smiled and he started running! (well jogging). It was the cutest thing! When I was sick my companion texted some of our investigators to just say sorry for not visiting. He text and asked if I was okay. Then a few days later he text asking me if I was okay now. He is the best! Before that we had given him a Book of Mormon and then we went back to talk to him about it.. He had read the introduction and had questions about it. He is so good! He wants to know more he told us like 3 times through the lesson that he is interested. Ahh.. we love him!

That Sunday night there was a fireside in Pasig. We are part of the choir and so we went to sing. The first song we sung was kind of like a medley. It was The Lord is My Light and Lead Kindly Light. Then there was a speaker. As she started speaking the power went off! It had happened before the meeting started as well. As the lights were off we were all just sitting there. Then we heard some of the Elders start singing.. "The Lord is My Light" then we all started singing it. It was the perfect situation because the lights were off and we were singing about how the Lord is our light :) I loved the part as well when we sung "The Lord is my light, so why should I fear?" It was such an amazing experience and we really felt the Spirit as we sung in the dark! An experience I will never forget! We also sung Lead Kindly light and Teach Me to Walk in the Light. And then the lights came back on! Awesome experience!

Yesterday we had zone conference. That was awesome as well :) We talked a lot about the goals that we are setting in the mission. We talked about how there has been a culture change in the mission. We all have more faith and we are all united. I feel the unity in our mission. President Koster is big on unity. Our mission is doing better, we are improving and we are seeing more miracles! There is a quote I love by President Gordon B. Hinckley. He said: “When you are united, your power is limitless." I sent this to President and he loved it. There is power in our mission right now, we are on fire. We have a # in our mission right now, #powerinPQCM. PQCM stands for Philippines Quezon City Mission. Good things are happening here right now!! Someone said yesterday "The flame of faith is strong in PQCM"

One thing President also shared with us yesterday was a quote. He talked about eagles and how their nests are really high. He said that when they have their babies the way they teach them how to fly is by just dropping them out of the nest. Then as they fall that's how they learn how to fly. Obviously, they are freaking out when they are falling. But because of that they learn how to fly. But I love the quote that President shared with us. This is it: "The thrill of soaring begins with the fear of falling." Amazing, right? And so true! He said, “remember when you first came in the mission? You all felt like you were falling and you had no idea what was going on?” I was like oh yeaaaaaaah I remember that haha. “But now you are beginning to feel the thrill of soaring.” I was like yep I feel that now! It's so true! There are things in our life that are scary! We all have fears! We fall and we struggle, but through those struggles we learn how to fly, and we gain the blessings that come from that, and the growth that comes from it.

It also reminds me of a quote that my cousins will know because it's from a movie we always used to watch. Hopefully they will remember. This is it: "Never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game." I never want to regret things that I never tried, because of fear. I have fears, and I am learning how to overcome them here. It takes time, but we just need to take the first step and try.

That's all for this week! I love you all!

Take care!

Sister Hann

Hello Again - Week 57

Hey everyone!

This week was a good week.  The weekend was even better. I feel like our Saturdays and Sundays are so busy which is good!

So, this week we had STL exchanges. That was fun.  I was with a Sister that is from Kiribati.
I want to mainly talk about one of our progressing investigators.

So, a while ago we talked to this guy that was selling street food. When we went back the next week we found his house and we taught him and his family. He is the most receptive out of his family. They came to church last week. They couldn’t yesterday because they were going to visit his family. I remember after sacrament we were walking to the gospel principles class which is upstairs. On the wall as you walk upstairs is a picture of the first vision. He was like "This is Joseph Smith" (know this, we had given him a restoration pamphlet but we hadn’t taught him the lesson yet). I was like yep that’s Joseph Smith. Then he said, you know what, I feel like Joseph Smith, I am also searching for the truth. I was like flip this guy is awesome. Then I kept walking up the stairs. As I looked back he was still looking at the picture. Then in class he was so good. He also went to Priesthood class. When he came out he was like, "the lesson was about testimony" What I noticed about him after church is that he just seemed so happy. He had a smile on his face that I had never seen before. Then Saturday night we were just walking along, we were walking straight and he just randomly comes around the corner. You should have seen our faces haha. We were like Brother Jordan! And we started running hahahaha! We had been to his house earlier and he wasn’t there. We wanted to teach his family but they were asleep. It was a miracle that we randomly saw him. After that we went with him to his house and we taught lesson 1. It was a great lesson. I really felt the spirit and I felt the gift of tongues working. The way I spoke was just smooth. And then we extended a bap date and he accepted.  So good. He has a problem with smoking and I think drinking as well but he has a desire to change so this week we will teach him the word of wisdom and we will commit him to stop.  He is awesome!!!

We have a few other investigators as well that are progressing! I will update you more on them next week.

I am really seeing miracles in my mission. Even if they are small. I see the Lord's hand in the work! So much! He really leads us to people! Sometimes we will meet someone and then afterwards I am like, Yep, Heavenly Father led us to them. So good.

That's all I can think of right now. I am always forgetting things but I can just update you about everything when I go home or something haha

Sorry, this is all for now.

Love you all!

Sister Hann

Hello Again - Week 56

Hey everyone!

This week was an awesome week. On Tuesday, we had a zone activity. Everyone came and did finding in our area and the area of our house mates. It was so good! I am grateful for our zone. They are awesome and we are all working hard to help each other progress! We had a miracle as well as we were doing this activity. Me and my companion went to the furthest part of our area. As we were walking this guy said hi to us so I stopped and started talking to him. We continued to have a conversation with him and he told us about how he wants to change. He was in to drugs before but we saw how much he wants to change! He was such a nice guy! Before we started the activity as a zone we set goals. We set that we would find 15 investigators and extend 2 bap dates. I was like flip how are we going to extend 2 bap dates if we are just talking to people on the street. Anyway, as we were saying goodbye to this guy the spirit was like to me 'extend a bap date' at this point we were shaking hands so I was like flip how am I gonna do this. We started walking away and I was like to my companion I felt like we should have extended a bap date. She was like why didn’t you say anything. I said because it was as we were saying goodbye that the thought came into my mind. I was like let’s go back. As we went back to him we started talking again. We extended a bap date to him and guess what? he accepted! I was so shocked my eyes started getting teary hahaha. We haven’t had anyone that has been accepting bap dates and then bam out of nowhere this happened! We were so happy after that experience!

We had 5 investigators at church!!
For the past like 5 weeks we have had 0. Yesterday was a miracle! So, we had one family and a sister that lives with that family, and then another investigator from a different area. We were supposed to have 6 but the guy I was just talking about in my story before... he got lost on the way to church!!!!! :( I was like nooooo! But it's okay, next week :) We have been seeing so many miracles in our area! Everyone says that in the city it is so hard, the work is so hard and no one progresses. As a zone, we are removing these false limitations by working hard and being obedient. President always says: Faith in Jesus Christ + obedience= Miracles :) And it is true!!

I love missionary work and I am so happy right now.

Sorry, running out of time -__-

Love you all and keep being awesome!

Sister Hann

P.s I can’t send photos this week. Sorry!!

Hi - Week 55

Hey everyone!

So, it's been a reasonably slow week but that's okay another week is ahead.

Haha last week I forgot to tell you. Our zone went to one of the chapels so we could all find out the transfers together (normally the zone leaders just call). But we all play basketball every week so we just decided to find out there. It was so funny though. One of our zone leaders did it like a draft pick. He said, "Welcome everyone to the Philippines Quezon City Draft Pick, 2nd May 2017" Haha we did it in the chapel. He was like, “okay first I will tell you the team you will go to and then I will announce who it is.” So, he then announced the area they were transferring to and then who was transferring. He then got them to go up to the pulpit with him and talk about how they felt, just like the draft pick in the NBA hahahaha. To those of us who didn't transfer he was like, “okay sorry to those who didn't get drafted this year, keep practicing and you'll get there.” Hahahah we laughed so hard. It was a fun way to do it :)

So, our cool experience for this week. We went to go back to a new family we had found. It was so good because they were both free. We started to teach Lesson 2 to them. As we started a lady came down from upstairs... she had been listening and wanted to join. Turns out she was so good! She is a Christian and so she has a great understanding of the doctrine. She said, “Okay I am going to come to your church on Sunday. I am interested to know more.” I was like Hahahah because most people aren't like that! You almost have to drag them to church on Sunday. Hahaha just joking. But it is not easy. So, we are excited for her to progress! She is very smart and has a great understanding.

I continue to see the progress in myself. I am learning a lot. I am learning to be confident even when I don't feel like it. Sometimes it is hard because even though I enjoy being loud with those I am comfortable with, I am still shy when I am not comfortable. So, I continue to learn how to just be confident, to talk to random people and also to speak in Tagalog. FINALLY, when I talk to people they are shocked and they say, “wow magaling ka magtagalog" which means, "wow you are very good at Tagalog." I literally never thought I would get to this point. I don't understand everything of course, but most of the time I do. I can communicate with people and I love it. Some days I struggle more than other days, some lessons are better than others, but I have come a long way.

Heavenly Father will always help us and help us to improve ourselves. One reason we are on this earth to progress and become more like Him. He will help us do it! It is not easy but it is worth it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLAAAAAAAAAAAA YOU’RE SO OLD!!!! Stop growing I feel like I am 50 years old now! Love you, you crazy woman

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AS WELL UNCLE JARED.

Love you all! Have a great week!!

Miracle Week 54

Hey everyone! Another week has past. I am emailing today because it is transfer week but I am not transferring and my companion isn't either so all is well :) I will have a son though!! Hahaha. Our district leader will be training and because I am the oldest Sister in the mission in our district I will be his mother hahahaha. The family tree is interesting in the mission.

So, the main thing I want to tell you about this week is the miracle I witnessed. On Friday, we went to the hospital here and we gave little hats to the newborn babies. We do that every second Friday. Sometimes there are mothers who have lost their baby. It's hard but we always give them a teddy bear. It won't replace their child of course, but we hope that they will feel our love and the Lord's love for them.  This time there was this one lady who had lost her baby. I didn't see her at first but I turned my head and I saw one of the Sisters talking to her and I thought I saw her wipe her eyes. I thought she was just touched that we had given something to her for her baby. Then as I came close to her one of the couple missionaries went and hugged her and she started crying. That's when I realised she had lost her baby. When the Sister left, I was standing close to this ladies bed. There were so many things that I wanted to say but we are not allowed to proselyte there. Like we can't just start teaching them or give them pamphlets and stuff. I so badly wanted to give her a lesson 2 pamphlet about the Plan of Salvation but I wasn't allowed! I was like ah flip what do I do. I was torn. I was like oh c’mon I have to say something but then again, I didn't know what was going too far or saying too much. In the end as we were about to go I just went and shook her hand. I said, "Sister your baby is an angel now, she is with Heavenly Father" She teared up and she said thank you. As I walked away I was almost tearing up because I just wanted to say more or at least give her something to read!

Anyway, we were supposed to do weekly planning that morning after service but we had accidentally swapped area books with the District leader and his companion. I don't even know how it happened. So, we planned to meet at Aurora Chapel at 4:30pm and then we would plan in the evening. We got there at 4:30pm and they weren't there. We waited at Aurora Chapel for an hour. It's a long story why they were late but they were late. So, we finally got our area book and we went home. As we were on the jeepney travelling home I turned my head slightly and I saw the lady we had just seen earlier that morning in the hospital! I can't even tell you how shocked I was!! I was like what theeeee!!! It was a miracle! There was so much more I had wanted to say that morning to her and I finally had the chance. We gave her an L2 pamphlet and we got her address. She is not in our area, she is in the area of the Zone Leaders but I was so amazed. I couldn't believe it. Heavenly Father works in mysterious ways. There was a reason why our area books got switched and why the Elders were so late coming to Aurora Chapel! I don't know what will happen with her, but it was a miracle for sure!

Anyway, that is all I have time for this week! I will talk to you all next week :)
Love you all!!
