One Year - Week 53

Hey everyone!

Yeah so, I am now 1 year in my mission! That is the weirdest thing ever! I feel like it went so fast, but then I also look back on things that have happened and it seems so long ago haha. I have 6 months left and I will make the most of it.

So, we had zone conference on Tuesday. That was good. They focused a lot on temporal things like cleaning our apartments, eating healthy, budgeting. Man, I am learning everything in the mission haha.

So, Wednesday we had STL exchanges. It was awesome because I was with Sister Balladares. We were house mates in Antipolo for 2 transfers so we are close!! We had an awesome exchange and we had lots of fun! She is crazy as well so we always have fun together!!

There were a few days this week that no one was available. It was starting to drive me a little nuts. I was like PLEASE I JUST WANT TO TEACH! Obviously, I want to teach because that is our purpose as missionaries and partly because my legs hurt so much from walking so much haha. It was okay though because yesterday we had an awesome day! We started off trying to find someone that we had talked to on the street last week. We found their house but they weren't there. When we were trying to find their house, we were asking people. We found these 2 sisters who are in their 30's and 40's. We started talking to them. Then my companion asked if she could use their toilet. So, I just sat in their house and started getting to know them. Then we ended up doing an overview of lesson 2 and we are going to go back to teach them more. Then we went and had a really good lesson with some members. Then we had another good experience. We were walking down the street and I walked past this lady. I smiled and said hi and she had a big smile and said hi as well. We kept walking and then we stopped. I looked back and she was still looking at me and I was like to my companion, nope, we need to go back and talk to her. So, we went back and just started talking to her and she was so friendly! While we were talking to her an elderly lady and a teenager came and so my companion was talking to the older lady while I was talking to this one lady and the teenager. They were all interested! My companion told me the older lady said she wanted her grandchildren to serve missions and that she was willing to have us back and listen to the lessons. The other lady was as well. As we walked away we were so happy! Heavenly Father really does put people in our path who are ready to hear the gospel! I am continuing to learn to listen to the spirit to lead me to those who are ready!

Another thing. We have this one investigator... Anne. She was the one I said who came to church with a member and she is so receptive! The problem is the owner of the house. (She is a house help). She can't always come out so she can't always come to church and we are not allowed to teach her in her home. She is ready to be baptised for sure! And she wants to! We were like ahhhhh she is golden! But as soon as we realised that she was golden, that's when all the problems started haha. Our last lesson she wouldn't accept the baptism date because she said when she gets baptised she wants to be able to make sure she can go to church every week without the problems with her boss. Which is great! But we said that she doesn't need to delay her baptism because of that. She is going back to her province next month as well. We weren't sure how easy it would be for her to find missionaries there and get started on the lessons again and all that stuff. Anyway, when her member friend came to church and she wasn't there I was like noooooooo what are we going to do. Then the member said to us, “Anne just told me the other day that she will get baptised here... with you guys.” Flip I almost jumped for joy. We're still not sure exactly how everything is going to work. Hopefully this week we will be able to meet with her and set a date for her!! Miracles surely happen in the mission if we do our best and are obedient!

Gotta go! Love you all! Take care! :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EM AND JAKE FOR FRIDAY!!!! Keep being the little legends that you are!!!

On April 22 I will be 1 year in the mission – Week 52

So yeah, I am coming up to my one year mark. That is extremely weird! TIME GOES SO FAST!!! Time in the mission field is for sure a weird thing!

So, we had a really good zone training on Tuesday. It was about expectations. We talked about what members expect of us as missionaries and also what the Lord expects of us. Our zone leaders asked us what were some things that lower people’s expectations of us. The main one that we talked about was casualness. We also talked about things that distract us as missionaries and those things that make us become more casual. The zone leaders said, “okay write those things down on a piece of paper.” So, we wrote them down and then they had a mirror at the front. They said... come up to the front... put your paper down on the table (the altar of sacrifice hahaha) and look into the mirror and tell yourself "I will never go back." It was a really good exercise and I feel that it helped us be more committed to our purpose and to missionary work. I know it did for me. I only have 6 months left of my mission and so I am going to give everything that I can. I do not want to look back and regret things. All the worldly things will be there when I get home. I only have 18 months to do this and experience this. I am not going to give up that time for silly little distractions. The zone training really helped me refocus myself :)

Hahaha had this funny experience.. we were out working and we were walking on the main road and around the corner come the zone leaders. We were like what the??? Hahahaha. So, we started talking to them and they were like... we're so lost right now hahaha. They had a map with them but they were so confused. It was pretty funny. Then one of the Elders was like.. "Man, I feel like a twelvie." Hahahahah I laughed so hard! I haven't heard that in so long. It was nice to know that I am not the only one that gets confused in the area.

So yeah it has been "Holy Week" here in the Philippines. It's a big thing here. Which means it has been like a ghost town! They are all in church or they've gone away for a while. It was weird going out to work haha.. but our week was still okay :)

Yesterday was a really good day. We had a really good Relief Society lesson about the Saviour :) I really felt the spirit! Then we went home and had lunch and then we had to go back to Aurora chapel to meet the office elders and President. There was a stake missionary fireside in a different area and a bunch of missionaries were able to sing in it. 4 of us sisters ended up going up with President and then the office elders went with President's Sister (our mission nurse) and President's Mum who is also on a mission here. It was a really good ride with President. Especially on the way home. One of the sisters asked about how he proposed to Sister Koster -_- hahaha and then he also told us about his family. Then we talked about the gospel and how true it was and man the spirit was really strong in the car. He talked about if we work hard we will be blessed in the rest of our life. He said this is preparation for the rest of our lives. I love President. He is great!

One day this week was harder than others... One of the lessons I had no idea what I was saying.. it just didn't flow like I wanted it to. I realised how important the spirit is in

missionary work and how I can never rely on myself. The next day was so much better and I really felt the spirit guide what I was saying and guide the lesson! There is such a difference! I know that this is the Lord's work! Not mine! He will make up for the weaknesses I have if I am worthy of the Spirit!

So earlier we had a zone activity at the chapel. It was fun. We had 2 teams and we played lots of games and then ate lunch. I had a good time :) One of our AP's brought a mini soccer ball. We were just kicking it and then we got a few other people and we played this game.. it's like piggy in the middle but you kick it around and the person in the middle has to try and stop it.. I'm not gonna lie.. I was really enjoying it! I want to practice a bit of soccer when I get home haha. Tomorrow we have zone conference which should be good!!
I have a scripture for you before I leave:

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Love you all! Take care!

Sister Hann :)

Another Week - Week 51

Hello everyone, another week has gone.

So first up, just want to say I had an experience where a cockroach fell on my head hahahaha. I was sitting down eating something and then I felt something hit my head and then it landed on my lap and it was a cockroach. It took me a while to recover from that.

So, we had this cool experience. We went to a part of our area that is really far. We were looking for 4 people. 3 investigators and 1 less-active member. So, we were just walking asking people and no one knew who they were. As we continued to walk there was this one lady and she was just like HI!! She started talking to us and we asked her if she knew one of the people and she was like oh yeah I know them, they live right here. Then we asked about another person and she knew him as well. AND she knew the less-active member we were talking about. She knew 3 out of the 4 people we were looking for. She first took us to one of them, we weren't able to teach her because she wasn't well, but we prayed with her. Then she introduced us to another investigator. And so, we talked to him. As we were about to continue on we just heard a "hey sisters" ... turns out it was the less-active member. Me and my companion just looked at each other and almost started laughing. All of them were in one spot!!! It was an awesome experience :)

So, last week I shared about the investigator that said to me he didn't believe in Joseph Smith. He was the one with the lightbulb moment. Well we taught him again this week. We showed him the video of the restoration. He liked it! He gained a respect for Joseph Smith and he wants to know more about him. He wants to know about the struggles that he went through. We are going to try and find another video that we can share with him. He also had questions about The Fall. He said, “I can't understand while the Fall of Adam and Eve was a blessing.” We had a member present and she explained a lot to him but I am not sure if he was satisfied. Me and my companion were praying that we would receive revelation about our investigators during conference. Then Elder Costa shared about Alma 42. Me and my companion opened to it and we were like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! This will help him understand more about it!! I was just smiling and it increased my testimony about receiving revelation.

We have this other investigator, Sister Anne. She is 50. 3 weeks ago, she came to church with a member friend and she is SO progressing!! She is so receptive! She says that she will join the church! Before that we extended a baptism date for April 22. The problem is she works for someone in their home. I think she is a house help. Anyway, they have problems with the owner... it's hard to explain. Anyway, she said she doesn't want to get baptised and then not go to church. She said that maybe sometimes she won't be able to come because of the owner.' And then next month she is going back to her province.  Ahhh... we will see what happens this week.

So earlier we played basketball again. I almost forgot for a second that I was a missionary because I almost hip and shouldered one of the Elders hahahaha I forgot I wasn't playing with my brothers. But it was fun :) I miss playing with those in my last area though. We had such a good zone. I am homesick for them hahaha nah just joking. I like my zone here as well actually :) I've been lucky to be with great missionaries in all my areas!!

That's all for now. I loved conference! I have so many notes but they are at home so I can't write anything haha.

I just saw this one quote on someone's t-shirt this week that I thought was cool: "luck is where preparation meets opportunity."

Love you all!

Keep safe!

Hello! - Week 50

Hello :)

I am still directionally challenged! In my defence this area is not easy to memorise. There are like 500 different streets! It's different serving right in the city! But I am enjoying myself and me and my companion continue to work hard :)

So, this week we had interviews with President Koster. I always enjoy that! So, mine was really good! He said to me "Sister Hann, you have no mean bone in your body." He told me to use my strengths of kindness and other things to help me in missionary work. I always feel so motivated after an interview with him. I love President Koster. He is the best mission President in the world. (Sorry everyone else, it's true). He really cares about his missionaries.

So, we have a few good investigators. Even though there are some problems as well. So, we have one investigator called Rhona. Her testimony of the Book of Mormon is so strong! She even applies it to her life! She loves Nephi and his story and she says that she wants to be like him. The problem is her husband is Catholic and he doesn't want them to change religions. It's hard but we just need to continue to build a relationship with him as well.

We have this other investigator who has been taught many times before. His wife and children are members. We had a first visit with him the other day and man it was a good lesson. We taught lesson 1 again even though previous missionaries had taught him that. He didn't really remember it. As we were teaching I noticed his attention was not really in the lesson. I shared about Joseph Smith and the restoration of the gospel. Then after I shared it he still wasn't fully focused. I had the prompting to ask him a question. So, I said to him, "Brother, do you believe that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God." He boldy replied "no." I paused for a second then asked him why (I am glad he was honest). He said something about how he hadn't really heard Joseph Smith anywhere else... and he just didn't really believe it. I asked him if he really had a desire to know the truth. He paused and he said yes. He said he had prayed before about it but he never got an answer. We had a member with us and she talked about how we need to have a pure heart and a sincere heart. She shared with him Matthew 5:8: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." She said that this is what confirmed to her first of all that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God.. because so strong was his faith and pure his heart that he saw God and Jesus Christ. Second of all she said that if you truly want to know you need to have a pure heart and real intent. His reaction was great.. He looked up at the ceiling and was like "ohhhhhhhh!" Like as if this big light bulb had just come on in his brain haha. I think it is going to take a while to really help him to receive the witness but I believe he can and the time will come that he will :)

One more thing. So my favourite scripture is Ether 12:27..

And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.”

Since I have been here in the mission I love it even more! We all have weaknesses and that is just a fact.. and it is OKAY! The key is to be humble. If we are humble it says: "His grace is sufficient." We all know that we are not perfect and we never will be. All we need to do is be humble and try and change. When we try to be better and do the best we can His grace will take over. His grace does not make up the rest.. His grace is everything. Without it we could never overcome the weaknesses and shortcomings that we have. But because of it, we can make them into strengths. It doesn't mean we can just say.. okay His grace will save me.. I'm good. We can't slack off. Just do your best. That's all He asks. We can do it, we can make it :)

Love you all!

Here are pictures! :) Take care!!
