New Area - Week 49

Hi everyone!

So, I am emailing today because we just went to the temple earlier :) It was soo good!

So tomorrow it will have been 1 week that I have been in my new area. It is different for sure! It is really in the city so there is so much pollution :( My other area was really nice! There was mountains and it was like a province (look up what that means, it is hard to explain haha). Here is a different story. I feel like I've breathed in enough pollution to last me a lifetime hahaha. But it is actually nice cause we are close to our mission office. Where our mission office is, is actually also the biggest chapel here. It's where we have all the zone conferences and stuff. Anyway, so I came here on Wednesday and I was SO EXHAUSTED! I hadn't had much sleep for like 2 days. One night my companion was struggling with something and then the next night I was packing. (I HATE PACKING). Ughhh it was not good. I got to my new area and I just wanted to sleep. But of course there is no time to rest hahaha. We did some planning and study and then we went out to work. I slept so well that night though. Then Thursday and Friday we had service at Aurora chapel (the big one I just told you about). We were packing school supplies in bags for children who don't have enough money to buy school supplies. We had to pack 30,000 bags! It was crazy! But it was so much fun because you got to talk to different missionaries in a relaxed setting :) I was talking to so many Aussies, it was awesome hahaha :) So both of my zone leaders are Aussies haha and one of them transferred here with me and we came from the same zone. He is awesome. He calls me "Hazza" Hahahaha He's always like "Hazza mate, how are ya?"

So, my new companion is Sister Balagso. She is a Filipino yaaaaaaaaaaaay It is definitely helping me with the language! I just said please speak to me in Tagalog all the time haha. She wants to learn English as well so we are going to help each other :) And it's great because we get along really well :) It makes it 100 x easier if you get along with your companion! Oh, btw the Bishop here is so rich! We just went out for lunch because it is our kabahays birthday and we went to this all you can eat restaurant and it was AMAZING! It was weird. I didn't even feel like I was on my mission because we seriously do not have enough money for that. I was like did I just die and land in heaven! It was that nice! There was so much candy. I was in heaven. But now I am so full. Don't worry, I will be fed very well here.

The area is pretty hard. We don't really have progressing investigators. There are some good investigators but there is always a problem that is stopping them from being able to be baptised.  It's hard! But all my areas have been like this and so I have learnt to just be positive and work hard :) So I know that if we work hard we will see miracles!!!! And even though they have been hard (my other areas), I have still been able to witness plenty of people being baptised and I have also been able to be a part of teaching people the gospel. I LOVE THE PEOPLE HEREEEEE!!!!! I cannot even begin to explain to you the impact these people have had on my life :)

Sorry I can't send pictures this week, I left my cord at the computer shop in my other area. I am going to buy a card reader at some stage so it's all good :)

Love you all! That's all for this week, I have run out of time. But yeah, this week we will be finding more people to teach and trying to help this area progress!

Love you all! Take care and if you want a good read... read 1 Nephi 13 :)

Transfer and 11 months - Week 48

So.... I am transferring! Haha! I felt like I would because I have almost been in this area for 6 months. I will be transferring to Quezon City South. I will update you more about that next week. I will be a follow-up trainer. I am a bit nervous about that but no worries, I got this mates ;) I am probably going to fry there because it is starting to get hot and I will be in the city talaga. I will never go dark though (tanned) (sometimes that confuses the Filipinos hehe). I have to go home and pacccccccckkkkkkk after this! I am too lazy for that! We played basketball again earlier. It was awesome.  Oh, and tomorrow I will be 11 months in the mission...

This week has been a good one :) We had the last district meeting with our district leader. He will go home tomorrow. I hate that my friends are now starting to go home :( He was my district leader for 3 transfers so we became good friends. That's just part of the mission! We all go home eventually! I love you all but it is going to be so hard for me to leave.  On Tuesday, it was also the 2 years of my companion being a member of the church! It was awesome to spend that day with her! She really hasn't been a member for long but she is awesome.

There is this funny old man in our area. He has this guitar and he always walks around singing. We always talk to him and he starts singing this song... "sa langit wala ng beer" then he would sing it in English... "in heaven there is no beer" Hahahaha it was so funny! Me and my companion had the song in our head for like 2 days!
We had a really good day on Saturday... we had a member work with us all afternoon until we went home. It was a great day especially because we went back to someone we had talked to on the street and she let us in and we taught lesson 1. The member is a convert of about 3 or 4 years so it really helped our lesson because she could testify about how the gospel has blessed her family. The person we taught is a mother as well so they could really relate to each other! I hope that she progresses! Even if I am not there to see it.

I am not really sure what else to say. I am forgetting everything that happened this week.

Oh, yeah, I finished the Book of Mormon last week for the first time on my mission. Hopefully I can finish it again before I go home!! It is absolutely amazing and I know it is true.

I will just share a scripture that stood out to me this week. 3 Nephi 18:18

18 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, ye must watch and pray always lest ye enter into temptation; for Satan desireth to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.

You know what, Satan is very real and he knows our weakness’. I have seen that on my mission. We need to be so careful because it is true. He wants to have us, sift us as wheat. He is very cunning! Just watch out and pray always as it says in the scriptures. Satan is strong but of course the Lord is stronger :)

Love you all!! Ingat kayo lagi.

Hey Everyone - Week 47

Hey everyone

So, this week I had STL exchanges with an Australian. So, awesome. She is actually Samoan but she lives in Australia. We had a good day and I showed her the vegemite Mum and Dad sent me and she almost died of happiness haha. I learnt a lot from her, it was a great day. President Koster talks a lot to us about having a 'sense of urgency,' in the work. After these exchanges for some reason I really gained that! I really gained that sense of urgency for the work. I only have about 8, almost 7 months left of my mission and I need to do all that I can to help this work progress. There is so much work to be done!

So, I ate balut again this week. I've eaten it quite a few times but this time was different. The duck was SO developed! There were feathers and at first, I was like okay okay I can deal with this then I took a bite and it was crunchy!! I was like okay nope that's it that's too far. It was the feet! And I saw the beak too ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am not gonna eat another one for a while.

There is this one guy in our area who always calls me pinsan which means cousin hahaha. He collects the money before people hop on the jeepney. Yesterday he saw me and was like PINSAAAN!!! He always tells everyone "Yeah I used to be that white." Hahaha he is so funny!!

I had this really cool experience the other week that I forgot to tell you. We have this one member in our area and before we visit them we normally text just to confirm. This time I completely forgot. Anyway, we get there and her sister, her sister’s husband and her Grandma are there. (They are not members of the church). We had a lesson planned about missionary work but I was like yeah let's not do that right now. Anyway. Before I am thinking about what we can share. I was like maybe I will just share the first principle of lesson 1 which is about how the gospel blesses families. Because of course they are a family. Anyway, I started and just shared about how even though we have problems in our families, if we have our family centered on Jesus Christ and the Gospel then we have a way to deal with the problems we face. As I was sharing I was like okay this isn't what I need to be sharing. Then out of nowhere I just followed up with the family about their reading in the Book of Mormon. l don't really know where it came from haha. The children said they hadn't really been reading. So, I was planning to share in 2 Nephi about how we need to feast upon the words of Christ. As I asked them to get their Book of Mormon the Grandma said "Okay get their Bible." I was like okaaaaaaaay, I need to share something else. So many people call the Book of Mormon our Bible haha. Anyway I flipped open to 2 Nephi 29.. and we read these verses with them:

7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.
10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.
Sorry the text is so big.. I don't know how to make it smaller haha

Then I asked the Mother to share what she learnt and what her testimony was of the Book of Mormon. I literally saw her eyes light up as she was given the opportunity to share her testimony with her family about the Book of Mormon. She said things like "remember I told you....." I think it helped her to have us there to support her and her testimony. I think the scriptures supported what she had explained to them before about the Book of Mormon.  It was a great lesson and I am so grateful that I was able to be led by the Spirit. I know He took over the lesson. None of it was me or my companion.

We played basketball again this morning. It was the best!!!! Just owned some Elders again, you know how it is.

5 months na ako sa isang area - Week 46

So, I just realised I wrote the title of this in Tagalog without noticing. You know the longer I am in the mission the harder it is to type in straight English. There is actually an American that lives here and he goes to church in the ward. (We are the branch). And I saw him on Sunday and we spoke English but it was so hard for me to speak straight English. It sounded weird! I am in the same house as an American sister but we always speak a mix of Tagalog and English... Sometimes it's mostly English but there will be a Tagalog word here and there. I am interested to see what it will be like when I come home and I have to speak straight English haha.

So, the title of this email means that I have been 5 months in one area. I was looking at my old planners the other day and I saw that I came here on October 5 and yesterday was March 5. I have been here for so long! But it's okay, I continue to do the best that I can and work hard :) I learn new things every day.

Earlier we had a district activity. With 2 districts in our zone. It was fun :) We went hiking. I have pictures but I forgot to bring my cord :( I thought we were going home first but we came straight to the computer shop after the activity. I have pictures I want to show you :( But I think it will just have to wait till next week.

There's not really much to update on right now. We are struggling to find progressing investigators. We have one, his name is Cyrus and his parents are less active (I think I may have told you about him), anyway, he is ready but they are not coming to church :( It is hard. I love that kid like my own little brother. I told him I would come back and visit and we would do some cool stuff and he seemed excited haha :)

My mind is not with it right now, I can't even remember what happened this week. I don't think anything overly eventful happened. We continue to FIND FIND FIND! Always finding new investigators. I am learning to just talk to random people. It's actually fun and I have had some good experiences and good talks with people :) And when they don't want to listen to us and if they're rude, we just laugh :) It's funny but if someone tells me the church is not true... or the Book of Mormon or whatever it may be, it just strengthens my testimony :) That might sound weird but every time they say it I just have this desire to defend the church and the Book of Mormon.

I have already said this before but I have noticed it again this week. The worldly things will never give us true happiness. I love being in the mission. Yes, it is hard but I am away from the worldly things. Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ will give us true happiness. Jesus Christ is at the centre of it all. He is my only hope talaga. I am nervous to go home to the worldly things. I am happy I still have 8 months pa. I will make the most of it and gain as much as I can from it. I know I'll struggle, but it'll all be worth it :) Just don't forget what is truly important. I remember this quote. it says: "Hell won't be fire and brimstone, it will be seeing who we were in the pre-existence and then knowing we gave that up for the things of the world." Ouch right? But it is true. You are much more than you think you are.

Love you all! Hopefully my email will be better next week!
