G'day Mate - Week 14

Hello all,

This will probably be a quick one. Not a lot to update you all on since last week.

One thing though, WE GOT SOAKED AGAIN!!!! Hahahaha it was hilarious. Literally a few minutes before we left the apartment it started raining. It wasn't that heavy. Then as we left it started POURING!! We were like are you serious mate?!?! (trying to keep my aussieness). We had to go under shelter and wait for a bit because it was so heavy!!! And if floods so quickly here! This time my whole ankles were covered by the water when I was walking in it... Even up my calf a bit. So funny. I thought we were going to get sick but we're fine! I've really been blessed because I haven't been sick yet!! (Let's hope I don't talk to soon aye)!

We have 3 baptismal dates set for August. And they are really progressing! I honestly hope it all goes to plan, but I am not getting my hopes up hahahaha.

The work has been a bit slow this week. There's been problems with our kabahays that we've had to work through. I am not going to go into detail. I hope it's okay for me to say this much. But yeah Friday we had a trainer/trainee meeting. We got home at around 2 something and had to do our weekly planning (That can take up to 3 hours). It was like 5pm, and then stuff happened and we had to sort it out so we didn't even work that day :/ Not good, but the leaders know why.

So yeah not much to say because it's been a slow week.

But I am honestly just so grateful for the gospel in my life. There are struggles here in the mission but because of the Atonement I know that there is someone who understands my struggles and has felt them. That is the Saviour. I will forever be grateful for His sacrifice. He really is the only one that can help me through them. And I love that despite the struggles I can still be happy and still see the good in the day. It just depends on our attitude!!!

I love this scripture:

Alma 7:11-12 (and also 13)

11: And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12: And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

So he knows EXACTLY how we feel because HE FELT IT ALSO! And because of that He knows how to help us! How great is the Atonement!

I love you all, I really do, you are always in my prayers. Keep safe

Ingat palagi! (take care always)

Hi All - Week 13

So there isn't heaps to catch you up on this week.

On Sunday we came home after church and we had just finished lunch when my Nanay put ice down my back. Well... That started something hahaha. I got her back... She also got Sister Tio.. So we were like okay we're going to get her back but she ran upstairs. I got more ice ready and I was going to run up the stairs to get her when a lot of water came pouring down from upstairs onto me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man it was lots of fun and just helped us to get rid of some stress!

So my P-Day is today because we had a temple trip today :) The temple closes for 3 months so they wanted us to go before it closes. Which was so good! We really needed it! On Monday though we had planned to rest for the whole day and during our companion study we got a message from the zone leaders saying our P-Day had changed and that we had to prepare to go out proselyting. I was like... REALLY!?!?!?! I just had to laugh about it. I was so prepared to rest hahahaha.

We are so tired at the moment!!!! Today we woke up at 4 because we had to be at the temple at 6. We went home and had a sleep and now we are here. We plan to go back and sleep after haha.

I have an awesome zone again :) Only a few people were transferred. One of the zone leaders was transferred, so there are now 2 Filipinos. They are awesome though :) And we are going to get a zone t-shirt this transfer woooo!!! I am excited for that!!

Ohhh I forgot!!! So we have apartment checks once a transfer. They are surprise visits. We had it yesterday. We had a district meeting yesterday and when we got home the District leader text us saying that some other sisters in the zone said they'd just had an apartment check. So we all looked at each other and then got up and started rushing around the apartment cleaning it all!!! Hahaha it was so funny. So there is a point system with the apartments. You can get a celestial apartment, terrestrial, telestial and outer darkness hahahahaha! We got Celestial WOOO! Which means that we get a voucher for KFC! So good: P We text the DL and we were like THANK YOU SO MUCH hahahaha!!! If you don't pass the apartment check you can't go to zone or district activities. Luckily we all passed!!!

So yeah not much to update on. I am rushing this hahahaha. But all good! I hope this isn't an awful email: P I should write down what I need to email you about.

Anyway I am making no sense! It won't be long till I email again on Monday :) Hopefully it will be a better email!

Love you all and I miss you heaps!

Transfer Week - Week 12

Hi all!

So it is transfer week this week! Transfer day is tomorrow. That’s why I am emailing today and not yesterday. Our P-day was changed so that if anyone has to transfer on Wednesday then it is easier for them to prepare. Sorry that I forgot to say that last week. So we got calls this morning and my Nanay isn't being transferred! YAAAAY! Our zone leaders called and we were freaking out but all is good! And my kabahays aren't leaving either which I am really happy about because we all get along well :)

We had zone training yesterday. That was REALLY good! Our zone leaders are called my grandfather’s hahahah. They are really cool.  One just got transferred and he leaves next month. So I won't see him again. One of the zone leaders yesterday was freaking me out because he was like "what if your Nanay is transferred?" and I was like WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY? hahahah but it is all good! My Tatay is also gone now! He is going home today! :( He was hilarious. He is from America. But I will get what they call a follow up Tatay (because I am still in my training). My old Tatay said that I shouldn't acknowledge this new District Leader as my Tatay because he'll always be my real Tatay hahaha. He is a crack up. He made our district meetings good!

This week we met our new Mission President. He is really good! He is from California. He and his wife both served in the Philippines and in the same mission. They have 4 children but one is serving a mission at the moment. They are so kind and so excited to be here. It is going to be great with them! I am excited!

This week we got a referral from one of the members. It was a 21 year old guy. We went to his house with the assistant to the ward mission leader (who is 21 also). We can only meet with him on Sunday's because he is so busy, and we need to have a female present. But anyway, we were just chatting and getting to know him and it was just like we were young people having a good chat. Then we went into the lesson and it was serious and obviously the Spirit was really there. Then at the end I started inviting him to be baptised and before I even finished he said yes... and I was like um what? hahahah (just in my head). It was so good! He seems very prepared. I won't get my hopes up but he has great potential. I just thought it was awesome how such young people can joke and talk and then just have a discussion about gospel stuff. It was really good :)

Did I explain about Nena's husband last week? Anyway he has a baptism date for Aug 13. He is a smoker though but when we visited him yesterday he said he hadn't smoked any that day! And that is such a great achievement for him! His heart has really softened towards us! I remember when I first came he wouldn't even talk to us and now he is really being involved and joking with us too. He said that when we leave we will always have a place in his heart and that we are always welcome back! He is great! Their children are not interested, pero hopefully one day!

I am sorry that I haven't been sending photos. I don't have heaps at the moment.

Wait back to our zone training. Our zone leaders talked about our great importance as missionaries. I'll have to paraphrase it but they said that there are about 75,000 missionaries in the world today. And they were talking about those spirits who followed Satan when there was the war in heaven (now they are on the earth as spirits because they did not choose Heavenly Fathers plan to come to earth so they could not gain a body). Anyway they did the maths and apparently there are about 500,000 of those spirits to every one missionary. Meaning there are that many spirits tempting missionaries etc. I was just like wow far out. No wonder this is hard. And obviously they are doing this and focusing on us because we are bringing the gospel to people. We are bringing the way back to our heavenly father to people and obviously Satan doesn't want that! Ugh there is more to it and I can't explain it because I left my study journal back in the apartment. But maybe I'll explain more next week. And sorry to my non-member friends who probably don't understand what I am saying haha.

By the way if my English grammar is bad it is because whenever I hear English it is mostly from Filipinos and their grammar isn't normally correct and so that is all I hear! Literally I have to think about English grammar properly and I can't always remember things anymore! Hahaha it is crazy. So I am sorry if my English is bad. Also I am typing fast and not really proof reading.

Love you all,

Hope all is well and keep emailing me, even if I don't respond.

Almost finished my first transfer! Week 11

So I have almost finished my first transfer! Transfer day is the 13th of July. I am hoping that my trainer doesn't get transferred but we will see :(

We have a new President! We haven't met him yet but we will on Wednesday. We have another zone conference. I am pretty sure they are normally just once every 1 or 2 transfers but we've had 2 in one because of the change in President. So that will be interesting! His name is President Koster and he is from America!

So last P-Day we had another district activity. We are supposed to have a zone activity and a district activity once a transfer but our zone leaders didn't pass their apartment check and so we couldn't have a zone activity. But because my Tatay (dad- district leader) is going home at the end of this transfer he organised an activity but only our district came. But that's all good because my district is good. We went bowling! It was heaps of fun :) My Nanay won on our lane hahaha. We had two lanes. My Tatay was in our lane and his companion was in the other lane. And then our kabahays (housemates) were in our lane. Does that make sense? Anyway it was heaps of fun :) ( I came third and got a strike wooo haha that's good for me).

This week we've been punted a lot! But that's okay! Thursday was particularly tough for me. I was just stressed about stuff. That night just before we had our nightly planning I had a really good talk with my Nanay. (yes I may have cried). She really helped me and I am so grateful for her. I have learnt that I have to be patient with this language! Yes there is progress in my understanding, but I still have a long way to go with the speaking. But I have learnt that it TAKES TIME! I am not going to learn it all at once and that is okay. Sometimes I am hard on myself and expect to know it all now.

We also had STL exchanges this week. Which means I had to lead our area with one of the STL's. I was SO nervous! But it was fine! I lead where to go but she still took the lead with talking to people. We got punted most of the time then as well haha. But she was also really helpful and explained to me that it takes time and gave me some good tips for studying. So I am so grateful! I stress too much, there was no need to stress about the exchange. I was really able to learn from her. She goes home at the end of this transfer too!

Yesterday we got punted AGAIN! Pero, we had Nena come out with us to teach (our recent convert). We had a great experience! We went to talk to her sister and niece. As we finished talking to them we started walking down the street and this young girl asked me my name. Her parents were there and they invited us in! The father grew up a mormon! The wife is catholic. His Aunties were there and they are also catholic. We just spoke with them for a while and then I just shared a scripture on faith. We left them a Restoration pamphlet to read and they said we could keep coming back to visit!! It was just awesome because we had not planned any of that, we hadn't even been around that area before. Sometimes being punted is good hahaha because it leads you to people you wouldn't have seen if you hadn't! Heavenly Father is always preparing people.

Sad news, we haven't been about to teach the boy Carlo again. (The one who just came into the lesson and accepted the bap date). We've seen him twice but we haven't been able to teach him. Not really sure what's happening there. I think Satan has a part in this because honestly he seemed to be ready and so prepared and now he isn't letting us teach? Ugh anyway! I hope there is progress there this week!

Oh and we got rained on yesterday! It was so heavy hahahaha. We had gone out to contact a referral but they weren't there. And then it started POURING!!! Hahahaha when we get soaked it is always fun though. I enjoy the rain to be honest.. Keeps things interesting!!!

I am so sorry I cannot respond to everyone. I am trying to give a better weekly email though. I honestly love you all and miss you all! I wish I could talk to you all more! I really do! I thank you all so much for you prayers! I honestly need them haha. It's so hard to learn a language! I PROMISE I READ ALL YOUR EMAILS SO DON'T THINK YOU ARE SENDING THEM FOR NO REASON! I APPRECIATE THEM!

Just want to share a quick experience I had a few weeks back that I forgot to share. Sometimes we won't teach a specific lesson.. We will just share a scripture according to their needs. I shared 2 Nephi 31:20 with one of our investigators. She started crying. Apparently her mum had just sent her that the other day (her mum is a member). And apparently she really needed to hear it. I have a had a few experiences where I have shared scriptures and the investigators have felt the spirit. One time I had the thought.. "But I don't understand everything that is going on." Then the thought came to me, "This is not for you." I was humbled by that. I was also grateful that despite the language barrier, I can help people feel the spirit. It really isn't about me! It is ALWAYS about them!

I am really striving to develop the Christ-like attributes of patience and humility! This is such a humbling experience. I am trying to learn to 'forget myself' and focus on everyone else!

Love you all!
