Baptism - Week 10

So this week has been a busy one!!

There have been a few highlights

On Wednesday I had my first zone conference. It was also the last one of our Mission President and his wife. It was heaps of fun! There were talks, testimonies of people who are leaving at the end of this transfer, and we had games. That was so much fun haha. It was nice to just muck around for a while and act like kids :P (You know how much I love that).

So it is always interesting walking around here because it is so weird for them to see white people. I always have people staring at me. Depends what mood I am in depends on how I feel about it. If I am in a good mood then I just find it funny. If I am not in the best mood I just feel like saying.. I AM NOT AN ALIEN PEOPLE!!!. Joke. It's fine really, I understand that it is weird for them to see white people :P

SOOOO!!! I have seen progress with the language this week! Nothing miraculous, but I feel like I can understand more!! When I first noticed it I was like YESSSS!! Hahaha. Step by step. It is just nice to see some progress!

I gained a greater testimony of how Heavenly Father prepares people to receive the gospel this week also. There is this one lady we stop around to see a lot but most of the time she is too busy and so we don't go in. Just the other day we stopped around and she let us in.. Then out of no where her nephew comes in and sits down. We were like okay cool! Haha. We had planned to teach Lesson 2, The Plan of Salvation.. so we continued with that. At the end of the lesson I invited them both to be baptised (Re-invited the lady because she already had a bap date) and they said yes!! She was still a bit unsure but he was so receptive!! I was so happy haha. Afterwards I was like.. wow... we haven't been able to come in to teach her and the one time we do her nephew comes in to listen also and then accepts the bap date. Through out the lesson I observed him and he was just taking it all in. I could just feel he was so ready to accept the gospel. Heavenly Father really prepares people and puts them in our path if we are willing to work. Was an awesome experience! I hope that it continues to go well with him. Oh and the bap date is Aug 20.. day before my birthday ;)

We had a baptism wooooooo!!! Her name is Nena! She is awesome. It all went well! And we had a few investigators come to watch also. Her husband is a former investigator but he came and he has come to church the past 2 weeks. So we are going to focus on him this week! I feel as though his heart has softened. When I first came he would leave the room when we came to teach Nena, but now he sits in on the lessons. So we will see!!

We also had a temple/MTC tour. We just walked around the temple with the investigators and took photos. It was so nice! And then President Trask did a tour of the MTC. The YSA from TayTay stake did that with us. It was great to see him again :) And I saw one of my MTC teachers which was awesome too.

Random thing, there are gecko's in my apartment Uncle Todd. Haven't caught one yet, but I will ;)

One of our investigators has a desire to be baptised, and even was asking if she could go on a mission when we did the MTC tour. Except she is 16 with a child. She can't get married and she is living with her partner. :( She is so mature though and ugh I just wish she could get baptised! Frustrating but it is okay.

Not much more to say.. Well I can't think right at this moment haha.

I am so grateful for this restored gospel. Teaching about it increases my testimony. I know it is true and I know through it we can live with our Father in Heaven again. I cannot wait to live with my family forever (in the Celestial Kingdom okay guys? haha). Remember that saying "No empty chairs"? This gospel is the only way to true and lasting happiness. Worldly things just don't matter in comparison. The Book of Mormon is the word of God, another Testament of Jesus Christ. Never replacing the Bible, working hand in hand with it. I love it and it helps me every day. READ IT OKAY!?! My non member friends reading this email... Just read it also haha ;) You won't regret it!

Love you all and miss you all.

Week 9 in TayTay

Hello everyone :)

I don't have long to email this week because we have a district activity soon.

So... We have a baptism scheduled for this friday!! :D YAAAY!!! First one! So excited :) It is a 56 year old lady, she is hilarious. We've been working with her to help her keep the Word of Wisdom. She is doing well! So definitely excited for that!

I continue to have struggles with the language. It is ughhh but it will come haha.

My Nanay gets me to eat all different types of food haha. I've eaten chicken feet! That was definitely interesting hahaha.

We got punted a lot this week. (People weren't there or people were hiding haha, or people were just too busy). But that is okay! We just keep working :)

I extended two baptism dates this week! They didn't accept hahaha. But it wasn't in a bad way. One was just like 'oh I've been baptised before.' And the other one... yeah I don't really know what happened there, I couldn't understand her HAHA.

I really like my ward. (Cainta 1st ward). The members are really nice! They try to mimic my Australian accent haha. Especially the youth! They are crazy haha. They call me Ed Sheeran and that girl from Brave. A bunch of them worked with us yesterday after church. They are funny.

So we have a temple tour on Saturday with our investigators :) and MTC tour! Yay going back to my second home again haha.

Miss you all and love you heaps.

Sorry I couldn't reply to everyone this week! I read your emails! I'll update you next week more and send some photos. I am sorry that I am not good at updating you on how things are going. I only have 1 hour to email and it is hard. We get a new Mission President soon... maybe he'll let us email for two hours haha. ANYWAY! love you all!

I ate Balut - Week 8

Hi all!!

I don't have much time to write a group email this week.

I ate balut and loved it!

Sorry, run out of time!

Love you all and I'll email better next week!

p.s. The next batch I had in the MTC, I became just as close to them! I have made so many eternal friends here already!

I thought there may be quite a few who do not know what Balut is so I am adding an explanation and some pictures to Jade's email.

For your information

Balut eggs, considered a delicacy, are fertilised eggs that contain partially developed duck embryos. They are boiled and eaten from the shell.

Taytay, Cainta - Week 7

Hi all!!

The field is great! I am in Cainta 1st ward :) I can't send you my address sorry. But I am in an apartment with another companionship. One of the other missionaries left the MTC the same day as me so that was cool :)

My trainer is Sister Soriano. She is a Filipino and she is great :) You call your traininer your Nanay (mother) haha. So she is always calling me 'anak' which is child.  She is really helping me and we get along so well! Which I am so happy about because she has made the adjustment great!

It is hard at times here because I don't really understand what is going on half the time hahaha. But I am learning! I will get there :) It wasn't supposed to be easy! Despite the language I actually really like it here! The people are great! I have met some great people already. It is very humbling because most of the houses are so small.

It is rainy season here! I have been caught in the rain twice! When it rains for like an hour here it floods! So the second time was on Monday. We had a family home evening with two families in a small house (it was so good) and as we were leaving it started POURING! We got out and were waiting for a tricycle (look them up, I love them) and we were walking down the street with the water up to our ankles. They are so right when they say "it's more fun in the Philippines!" Hahahaha. I have experienced so many things here that I just wouldn't experience back home. We had 3 young men come and work with us that day and as we were walking in the rain one was just shouting "the church is true" hahahahah it was heaps of fun :)

Another experience... we went to one of the ward missionaries house (he's 21, he's really cool) anyway while we waited for him to get ready to come out with us we walked around the neighbourhood with his little bro and little cousin. As we were walking around there were a few kids struggling to carry these bottles of water so we helped them. (they lived in a squatters area). Anyway when we went there we had to cross this dodgy bridge.. that was fun.. then when we went to the house to drop the water off my companion started talking to the father and then she noticed that about 20 kids started gathering around. Then she was like ooooooookaaaaaay let's go.. I was like huh? But we left anyway and these kids kept following us and calling out stuff that I obviously didn't understand. Anyway when we finally got away my companion said that they obviously hadn't seen a white person before and they were shouting out things like "I have a crush on you" Hahahaha far out. Seeing a white person is strange here so I always have people staring at me.

So my P-day is actually Monday but we had temple day today so that is why I am emailing today. But from now on it will be Monday :)

I will send some emails soon! I am really liking it here! My real struggle is the language but that will come as I keep working! I have been reading all your emails! I am just trying to email as many people as I can. (If I don't email everyone please tell them I am sorry) I only have an hour to email!

Jacob HAPPY 19TH BIRTHDAY FOR YESTERDAY!! I remembered! I have a calendar on my wall and I wrote it on there. I was thinking of him yesterday!

Btw I now wake up at 6:30am and go to bed at 10:30pm.. It was just different in the MTC because of construction going on around there.

Okay photos....

At the temple today. This Elder was in the MTC with me (he is my batchmate).

Me and my Nanay (that's what you call your trainer).
